Josh and his wife Rebecca moved to Lincoln-Roseville area from San Diego in 2002. They have two boys Aaron (3) and Jonah (1). Josh is a volunteer at Emmaus and enjoys writing songs about God and man's dependence on Jesus. He writes to inspire others to look beyond themselves and move towards embracing the power of God's redemptive love at work in them and in the world. |
Live For You Josh wrote Live For You on a Sunday afternoon in 2006 on the second anniversay of his mom's passing. Perfect Sacrifice Perfect Sacrifice was written during the lent season leading up to Easter 2006. It was inspired by the communion liturgy we read every Sunday at Emmaus... "When we had fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death, You in your mercy, sent Jesus Christ, Your only and eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to You, the God and Father of all. He stretched out his arms upon the cross and offered himself in obedience to Your will, a perfect sacrifice for the whole world." Wounded King A good portion of lyrics for Wounded King were derived from a lament written by Nathan Oates as he reached out for God's rescue on behalf of his son and family during a very difficult and trying season. He handed the lament over to Josh to be put to music. Josh was so moved, he couldn't help but complete the song of desperation with lyrical content that deals with the struggle of our own humanity. The song illustrates that despair can result from things that happen outside of our control and also from the outcome and effect of our own sin. No matter the circumstance, the cry for rescue and need for a Savior are the same. Wonderful CJ Hatlevig and Josh worked together on Wonderful. The song came together pretty quickly and from a place of awe and wonder as it was inspired by dramatic depiction of God's creation in the recent Planet Earth series on television. Only Good Tim Loomis took the lead with CJ and Josh on writing and singing "Only Good." It was inspired by the Emmaus "Child-like Faith" series which emphasizes God's true nature as being only good and that He always acts out of a motive of love and in a way that fosters life. Tim also incorporated sections of the Charles Wesley hymn And Can It Be That I Should Gain, something Nathan had been encouraging Emmaus artists to do for some time as it has always been one of his favorites. |
