![]() The Church is pretty good at behavior modification …but it stinks at transformation."- Kenda Dean, Godbearing LifeTransformation…Emmaus Church Community’s ultimate purpose is holistic life transformation. Our passion is catalyzing spiritual seekers and Christ-followers toward a life-long, revolutionary experience with Jesus Christ. Because holistic transformation is our ultimate purpose, our worship gatherings are multi-sensory and interactive. Our preaching and small group discussions apply the teachings of Holy Scripture to all parts of life. And we honor the wisdom, rhythms, and practices of the historic Church.
Community… Individual transformation fuels, and is fueled by, authentic expressions of Christian community. We strive to intentionally share life together, bearing each other’s burdens and celebrating each other’s joys. Because community is core to our purpose, our worship gatherings are highly relational and highly participatory. We meet often in one another’s homes. We eat together. We share life and ministry. Compassion…The expression and end of both personal and communal transformation - the whole point of this church community - is to engage culture with love, mercy, and justice in the name of Jesus. Our mission is to make the world a better place. Our end game is to bring Kingdom realities to bear on our neighborhoods and our world. Because compassion is core to our purpose, we seek to be a church community that goes to the people. We want to reach people by loving people. |

![]() Emmaus Church Community is part of the Church of the Nazarene, a family of 12,000 churches gathering in over 160 countries. With roots that reach back to the Anglican and Methodist traditions, the very first Church of the Nazarene was started in Los Angeles in 1895 as a mission to the poor. The name “Nazarene” refers to Jesus who grew up in the humble city of Nazareth. Remembering that Jesus was a Nazarene reminds us that God identifies with the poor and cares deeply about the everyday needs of the common person. Why is Emmaus part of a “denomination?”
The Bible teaches that it is extremely important for Christian leaders and local church communities to operate in submission to church authority. The Church of the Nazarene is a strong Christian Church with a Biblical mission whose denominational leaders will lovingly act to correct pastors who fail to remain faithful to their ordination vows. We view this kind of accountability as healthy. We seek to exist in full harmony with the Church of the Nazarene as one part of the “one, holy, catholic and apostolic” Christian Church. For more information about the International Church of the Nazarene please visit www.nazarene.org.
